Macpherson Spookes Field In The Hammer Players Championship

ROCKFORD, IL - Wendy Macpherson, Henderson, Nev., averaged 208.87 for eight games to move from the second position to take over the fourth round lead in the $105,000 Hammer Players Championship at The Cherry Bowl in Rockford, Ill, Halloween evening. Macpherson won six matches to lead the field by 12 pins over Tish Johnson, Northridge, Calif. Johnson won four matches and averaged 219 to move into second.
"I'm happy that I am bowling well," said Macpherson. "But, there is still two more rounds of match play to go to the finals. I was glad to see the night come to an end, it's been a long week and a long swing. I'm looking forward to a break."
The lady professionals are on their ninth stop of a ten-week swing of the Fall Tour. This major tournament was a long format consisting of three eight-game blocks instead of the routine six-game qualifying blocks.
Third round leader, Tennelle Grijalva, Orange, Calif., won four matches and averaged 203.25 to drop two spots into third. In the fourth and fifth positions are Carol Norman, Ardmore, Okla., and Cathy Dorin, Sandusky, Ohio. Norman won five matches and averaged 205.25 to move two spots while Dorin won four matches and averaged 206.37 dropping one spot to fifth.
The top 24 return Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. to bowl the last two rounds of match play. The field will then be cut to the top five that will advance to the televised finals. The TV finals take place on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. and will air on Monday, November 6 on ESPN2 at 8:00 p.m. (Eastern) and Thursday, November 9 at 1:00 p.m. (Eastern).
2nd Annual Tequila Rose National Mixed Doubles Tournament Qualifying Underway

ARLINGTON, TEXAS - Local qualifying is underway for the Tequila Rose National Mixed Doubles Tournament hosted by McCormick Distilling Co., Inc. and the Bowling Proprietors' Association of America (BPAA).
More than 600 BPAA member bowling centers are holding qualifying tournaments in hopes that their local bowlers will advance further. Local qualifying will continue through January 2001 with winners advancing to State and Regional Finals. The State and Regional finalists will proceed to the National Finals at the Texas Casino and Bowling Center in Las Vegas where they will share in the $125,000 in prize funds, which includes a $20,000 first prize. The National Finals are set for April 19-22, 2001.

Grijalva Holds Lead In The Hammer Players Championship

ROCKFORD, IL - Tennelle Grijalva, Orange, Calif., averaged 210.62 for eight games to hold the lead after three rounds in the $105,000 Hammer Players Championship at The Cherry Bowl in Rockford, Ill., Tuesday afternoon. Grijalva holds the lead by 62 pins over Wendy Macpherson, Henderson, Nev. Macpherson averaged 206.5, had high games of 238, 233, 218, and 210 to move two spots into second.
"I played the lanes similar to yesterday even though the lanes were a little tighter," said Grijalva. "I'm sticking to the same game plan all week which is to make good shots, cover my spares, and to be patient."
Tish Johnson, Northridge, Calif., dropped one spot while Cathy Dorin, Sandusky, Ohio, moved two spots into fourth. Michelle Feldman, Skaneateles, NY, averaged 207.37 to move from tenth to fifth.
The top 24 return Tuesday evening at 6:30 p.m. to bowl the first round of match play and will bowl the last two rounds Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. The field will then be cut to the top five who will advance to the televised finals.
