-Pattaya, Thai Dignitaries Announce Bowling World Cup

10/12/2001 - AMF Bowling
LONDON, ENGLAND - Dignitaries from government, business and bowling met with Thai media September 25 at The Emerald Hotel in Bangkok to officially welcome the 37th annual AMF Bowling World Cup to Thailand.

Bowling World Cup tournament manager Anne-Marie Board, tournament director Bernard Gibbons, and tournament host Sonny Lim presented a brief history of the AMF Bowling World Cup and details of this year's edition to approximately 30 reporters representing Thai broadcast and print media outlets. The 2001 AMF Bowling World Cup will be held at Lim's PS Bowl in Pattaya November 4-10. Lim also hosted the previous two Bowling World Cups held in Thailand, in 1979 in Bangkok and 1990 in Pattaya.

VIP guests presented to the media included Mr. Suchat Kaesrisupab of Singha Beer; Ms. Nutchavinee Boonchaloem and Ms. Ariya Ratanapornsiri of Coca-Cola; Mr. Preecha Poonpinich, an elected representative from the city of Pattaya; and Police Major General Sompob Sakuntavipak, vice president of the Thai Tenpin Bowling Council (TTBC). Singha Beer and Coca-Cola are co-sponsors of the 2001 AMF Bowling World Cup, along with AMF Bowling and PS Bowling Group. The tournament is sanctioned through the TTBC.

The AMF Bowling World Cup is the largest annual international sports competition in the world in terms of number of participating countries. Countries are invited to send one man and one woman to compete in the week long tournament, and to date 92 nations have indicated they will send athletes to Pattaya. The count is on pace to top the record of 88 countries set in Lisbon, Portugal, last year.

The 2001 AMF Bowling World Cup's championship round will be conducted in an arena setting within the PS Bowl complex Saturday, November 10. Matchroom Productions of the United Kingdom will again coordinate the TV production and worldwide broadcast distribution of the 2001 AMF Bowling World Cup finals.
