03/06/2001 - Bowling Headquarters
GREENDALE, Wis.- The American Bowling Congress and the Women's International Bowling Congress have announced the return of the National Mixed Championships. The tournament will be held this summer from July 6 -Aug. 5, at Castaways Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nev.
The National Mixed Championships, which debuted in 1991 before being renamed the Festival of Bowling, returns to its original name this year. The National Mixed Championships will make its debut in Las Vegas after three years in Reno, Nev., at the National Bowling Stadium.
"The change back to the National Mixed Championships is the beginning of some exciting changes we have planned for this tournament," said David Biber, National Mixed Championships Tournament Director. "We are bringing the National Mixed Championships back into the spotlight. People just didn't identify the National Mixed Championships with the Festival of Bowling."
"With the new dates and the move to Las Vegas, bowlers from all over the country will be able to enjoy this tournament," Biber said. "We wanted to make the National Mixed Championships a vacation. The move to Las Vegas will make it more affordable for our competitors to attend the tournament."
The National Mixed Championships will offer more than $200,000 in estimated prize funds and a variety of events for bowlers to enter.
"The National Mixed Championships has something for everyone," Biber said. "You don't need a team to compete in many of our events."
The deadline for entries to keep requested dates and squads must be postmarked by June 15 while the deadline for the remainder of the entries must be postmarked July 5.
