03/03/2003 - Bowling Newsline
GREENDALE, Wis. - The Women's International Bowling Congress and bowl.com have launched a history database that captures the spirit and values of its members and leaders.
The purpose of the WIBC database is to be the official source for the people, places, events, statistics and information that have been a part of the WIBC, both past and present, and contributed to its long, rich and colorful history. The database will capture WIBC history back to 1992, as well as feature significant events, individuals, and memorabilia back to 1916, when the WIBC was founded.
In 2000, the WIBC History Ad Hoc Committee recognized the need for an electronic system to store and preserve WIBC history and the project was approved by the WIBC Board. The project was planned and implemented by the bowl.com staff at Bowling Headquarters with the assistance of WIBC Hall of Famer and former WIBC Vice President Hazel McLeary.
"The new history database will allow WIBC members, the media and anyone else who is interested to have quick access to information about some of the leaders who have shaped our sport. It will also contain information about our members who have excelled on and off the lanes," said WIBC Executive Director Roseann Kuhn. "While the WIBC always likes to look to its storied past, we felt we needed to look towards the future and have this information on-line."
Currently, the database contains biographical profiles and photographs of the 2002-03 WIBC Board of Directors. In the future, the database will feature profiles of top women bowlers, WIBC tournaments, WIBC Hall of Fame inductees, WIBC award winners, written materials, important WIBC activities and events, all-time WIBC scoring records and photographs.
