1. Welcome Notes

Welcome to the latest issue of Kegler's Connection.  It's a busy week in bowling with several national and international events being contested including World Team Challenge, World Cup in Thailand, and FIQ in Buenos Aires.  In this mega issue, you'll also read about WIBC and YABA news, and George talks about offering help.
2. Tip of the Week

This week George talks about offering help.

When a member of your team is struggling, the natural reaction is to want to help them.  Many times when a bowler is having problems, another set of eyes can help pinpoint the problem, since the person watching can see the whole picture and look for anything that might be wrong.

However, be careful when offering help.  Many bowlers do not want to get help unless they ask for it.  Offering unsolicited advice can aggravate a bowler, and create a bigger problem.  If you see something wrong with a teammate's game, walk up to them and say, "Do you mind if I tell you what I'm seeing?". This will give the bowler the opportunity to politely tell you he doesn't want advice, or it will give him the opportunity to get some outside help. If they don't want help, then leave it alone, they want to work it out on their own. And please keep in mind this especially goes for helping spouses and your own children.  If they keep having trouble chances are they will come up to you and ask for your help anyway.

It's good to help a teammate, but it is important to know when to give it and when to leave well enough alone.

Till next week,
George Freeman

4. Tour 411: Darren Wong Retires

Darren Wong has announced he's retiring from the PBA Tour.  While never making a telecast, the California resident made several matchplays and was a fan favorite.  While traveling from Detroit to New Jersey to the next event, Wong's motor home was involved in an single-vehicle accident.  His motor home was totaled, but Wong's injuries were limited to minor injuries.  Wong's decision to retire was based on a desire to return home to his wife and child.  Wong hopes to compete in some tour stops in the future.
5. Coca Cola Timeline

Youth bowlers around the country are in their first qualifying window for the Coca Cola Youth Bowling Championships.  In-league qualifying is an essential aspect of YABA membership, and every youth bowler has a right to compete. Bowlers advance to regional and state events before reaching the national event held in Winter Haven, Florida in July 2002.
