Aulby Elected To The ABC Hall Of Fame
12/19/2000 - ABC
Mike Aulby, the only person to win three American Bowling Congress Masters titles and a 26-time Professional Bowlers Association Tour titlist, has been elected to the ABC Hall of Fame.
The 40-year-old Indianapolis left-hander was a near unanimous selection of the veteran bowling writers, Hall members, and selected ABC officials. He was the only person elected on the 2001 Regular ballot. He will join John Jowdy of El Cajon, Calif., and Bill Spigner, Vernon Hills, at induction ceremonies March 15 at the National Bowling Stadium in Reno, Nev. Jowdy and Spigner were elected to the Hall in August by the ABC Hall of Fame Board of Directors.
Nobody was elected after initial balloting on the Non-professional ballot. However, three candidates - Gary Bowler, Camp Hill, PA.; Mark Jensen, Wichita, Kan., and Ron Pollard, Versailles, Ind., will advance to a second ballot to be sent to the same panel.
Aulby won the masters in 1989 in Wichita and in 1995 and 1998 in Reno, Nev. He also finished second in 1996 and has two other top 24 finishes. He has career ABC Tournament average of 208 for 20 years.
Among his PBA titles are two PBA National Championships, one US Open, one Tournament of Champions and one Touring Players Championship. That makes him the only player to win bowling's unofficial "Super Slam."
In addition to his PBA first places, he has 75 other top five finishes including second, third and fourth places in the both the Tournament of Champions and PBA National Championships.
The 1979 PBA Rookie of the Year is a three-time Bowling Writers Association of the America Bowler of the Year (1985, 1989, 1995) and was selected as the Bowler of the Decade for the 1980s. The 1996 PBA Hall of Fame inductee has earned first team Bowling Magazine All America seven times.
