Walter Ray Williams Jr. Selected BWAA Bowler Of The Month
12/02/2002 - BWAA
Walter Ray Williams Jr. was voted Bowling Writers Association of America Bowler of the Month for November by a select panel of the organization, BWAA President Lyle Zikes announced today.
Williams, the 43-year-old right-hander from Ocala, Fla., captured his 35th career Professional Bowlers Association (PBA) Tour championship Nov. 10 by defeating fellow PBA Hall of Famer Brian Voss, Atlanta, 213-196 in the deciding contest of the PBA Greater Detroit Open in Taylor, Mich. The conquest put Williams behind only the legendary Earl Anthony (41 titles) in all-time PBA Tour victories.
In the weeks immediately preceding and following his latest triumph, Williams placed second respectively at the PBA Miller High Life Open in Vernon Hills, Ill., and the PBA Banquet Classic in Wyoming, Mich.
Randy Pedersen, Hollywood, Fla., who earned his 13th PBA Tour title -- and first since 1999 -- at the PBA Pepsi Open in Springfield, Pa., was a distant runner-up in the balloting.
