Doug Kent Selected BWAA Bowler Of The Month
04/02/2002 - BWAA
Doug Kent was voted Bowling Writers Association of America Bowler of the Month for March by a select panel of the organization, BWAA President Fran Deken announced today.
Kent, a 35-year-old right-hander from Newark, N.Y., earned $120,000 - the largest first-place prize in Professional Bowlers Association (PBA) history - by defeating Lonnie Waliczek of Wichita, Kan., 215-160 in the deciding contest of the PBA World Championship in Toledo, Ohio. The victory was Kent’s fifth PBA title and second "major": He won the 1991 American Bowling Congress Masters (also in Toledo), which did not count as a PBA title.
PBA Hall of Famer Parker Bohn III of Jackson, N.J., who captured his 29th career PBA title and fifth of 2001-2002 at the season-ending PBA Battle at Little Creek in Virginia Beach, Va., was a close runner-up in the balloting.
