-Terrell Wins Tie-Breaker For Robby Award Honor

03/06/2001 - Bowling Newsline
ROCKFORD, IL-Kim Terrell, Daly City, Calif., won a tiebreak vote winning the Robby Award for the third time in her career, the most any PWBA player has ever been named. Kim won the tiebreaker with Leanne Barrett of Pleasanton, Calif., who had also won the honor twice before. The Robby Award is voted by the touring players and given to a bowler who "best exemplifies the most positive image of women in professional bowling, both on the lanes and off." The award is named in honor of Charles E. (Robby) Robinson, the inventor of one of the world's most popular wrist devices and a long-time supporter of women's bowling.

"It is truly an honor to win this award, especially for the third time," exclaimed Terrell. "I always strive to be as professional as I can on and off the lanes. We are like a family when we are on tour and I do my best to treat everyone as that."

Sixteen others were nominated for this prestigious award. Three other players were only one vote from Barrette and Terrell just avoiding a three-way tie. During the revote, most of the players wanted Barrette and Terrell to win. But there could only be one winner; Terrell was voted by 61% of the votes, another close vote. A good example of Barrette's and Terrell's sportsmanship was shown in the voting. Barrette and Terrell voted for one another on both occasions.

"It's great that so many other players were nominated," added Terrell. "It shows that we have a class act of professionals as part of our organization that I am proud to be a part of. I would like to share this award with Leanne and all of the other nominees."

Terrell is a classy professional respected by all. Her great personality and courtesy never goes unnoticed. The highly respected PWBA star is a member of the Ebonite Pro Staff and is going into her 13th year as a professional. Over her career, Terrell was a two-time Collegiate All-American, a member of Team USA in 1987 to 1988, voted PWBA Ebonite Rookie of the Year in 1989, and a two-time Bowler's Journal All-American (1990, 95').

Terrell also had a great year on tour in 2000. She had eight top ten finishes and qualified for three TV finals. Her best finish was third in the WIBC Queens. She was able to stay consistent and cash in 21 out of 23 events, earning $50,615, thirteenth best on tour. Kim's consistency has kept her ranked in the top ten for the last five years. She finished tenth in average with 210.03 for 799 games and bowled two perfect games, bringing her total to 21 for her career. One of her 300's set a match play record with Michelle Feldman. Terrell and Feldman bowled the first ever perfect games against each other in match play competition in the Paula Carter Classic at Don Carter Lanes in Davie, FL. Recent Tour411 Updates:
