Bowlers Club Winner To Bowl In WIBC National Tournament
01/04/2001 - PWBA
ROCKFORD, IL - When Mary Lane of Shaneaken, NY, answered the phone on Christmas day, she had no idea that she was about to receive a special Christmas bonus that would help fulfill her wish to bowl in Ft. Lauderdale in the WIBC (Women's International Bowling Congress) National Tournament. Lane, 59, is a member of the Professional Women's Bowling Association's Bowler's Club and the lucky winner of the Christmas day drawing for $5,000.
"When I received the call from PWBA president, John Falzone, I thought it was a joke," exclaimed Lane, "and then I realized that he was very serious."
Ironically, Lane wants to use her winnings for a trip to Ft. Lauderdale where she had originally planned to bowl in the WIBC National Tournament with her friends. She recently abandoned her plans for bowling and fun in the sun when mechanical problems with her car forced he to spend her savings earmarked for the trip.
"Not only do I have the money to go on my trip now, but I can also buy myself a pair of new bowling shoes," added Lane.
Lane is a mother of two, has three grandchildren and is the only bowler in her family. She bowls once a week in a league at Ferraros Mid City Lanes in Kingston, NY. Ferraros is owned by one of her bowling idols, former PBA bowler, Dave Ferraro. Lane is also a big fan of the lady professionals. Lane's interest in watching professional bowling originated from following a friend who had bowled professionally and she's been hooked ever since.
"I was always interested in the professionals," said Lane. "I watch them on television all the time. My favorite bowlers are Lisa Wagner and Cindy Coburn-Carroll. I'm very intrigued by one of the younger bowlers, Michelle Feldman. I started following her because she is from my neck of the woods. She is an amazing bowler."
Not only does Lane enjoy watching the PWBA but she also loves supporting the Tour through membership in the PWBA Bowlers Club. "I really joined the Bowlers Club to receive the information on the PWBA," admitted Lane. "Two years ago I met a representative from WIBC while attending a convention in New York. She gave me the information and I decided to join. When I received my renewal, I immediately sent it in. I enjoy supporting the PWBA Tour."
After many years of support, the PWBA has a chance to return the favor to this dedicated fan. For more information about the current and upcoming PWBA Bowlers Club visit the official website of the Professional Bowling Association at www.pwba.com.
