Knowing Your By Laws 12/04/2000 - By George Freeman
Every league has a set of rules to supplement the rules given by the American Bowling Congress or Women's International Bowling Congress. These are called by laws. They lay the ground work for each individual league. Since there are different types of leagues, there are many different sets of bylaws. At each organizational meeting at the beginning of the season, all bowlers are invited to sit down and discuss the bylaws and vote on what goes into them. It is important to be familiar with these rules, they govern how things work in your league. Any matters not covered in the bylaws are most usually deferred to the ABC/WIBC rulebook. It's a good idea to keep both an ABC rulebook, and a copy of your league's bylaws handy, preferably in your bowling bag, for easy reference. If you don't have a copy of your bylaws, go to your league secretary, they will be able to get you a copy. Knowing the rules will make playing a lot more smoother, and much more fun.
