 George Freeman's Expert Bowling Tips
Keep Your Focus 05/10/2001 - By George Freeman
TAs we all know, bowling, however big a part of our lives, is not the only thing that affects us. Situations at work, at home, or in our personal lives throughout the day can and do have an impact on how we throw the bowling ball that night in league or tournaments. Bowling is a game that is 95% mental, and even little things like a big meeting at work or a sick child at home can affect how we bowl. Here are some tips on keeping and maintaining your focus on the lanes.
If you come into league thinking about that rotten day at work, chances are you're going to be distracted during bowling. If scheduling permits, go home before league to relax, have a light meal, and clear your thoughts. In today's environment, this isn't always possible. If not, you have to learn to put the day's activities aside in order to perform your best. You'll have plenty of time after league to deal with anything that arises.
It's important to not get angry during league and tournament play as well. When you're angry, you can't think, when you can't think, you can't make solid shots, since bowling is 95% mental. Everyone experiences open frames, and bad shots, getting angry will only compound the problem. So put mistakes behind you on the lanes. Remember that the most important frame is the one you're in, not the one you completed four frames ago.
We all have lives to lead, and we have to take the good with the bad. Hopefully, next time the bad comes to visit, you'll be better prepared to deal with it when it's time to bowl.
