-Kulick, Evans Take Early Match Play Lead In 2000 USA Bowling Championships

      Three-time TEAM USA member Kelly Kulick of Union, N.J., and TEAM USA 1998 member Shawn Evans of Satellite Beach, Fla., earned leads in the men's and women's divisions, respectively, after eight match-play games Wednesday in the 2000 USA Bowling Championships at the National Bowling Stadium.

      Kulick, a member of TEAM USA 1998, 1999 and 2000 who led after all three qualifying rounds, finished the eight-game match play with 6,650. She won six of eight matches. In second place was Jeanette Menacho, Sacramento, Calif., at 6,340. Junior TEAM USA 1999 and 2000 member Kristal Scott, Painesville, Ohio, was third with 6,319 followed by defending U.S. Amateur Champion Diandra Hyman, Dyer, Ind., at 6,287 and Ranae Janssen, Sioux Falls, S.D., with 6,259.

      Evans topped the men with 6,871 also thanks to six victories in eight matches. Brian Kretzer, Dayton, Ohio, was next at 6,774. Two-time TEAM USA member David Garber, Dallas, was third at 6,770 followed by defending U.S. Amateur Champion Bill Hoffman, Columbus, Ohio, with 6,731 and 1998, 1999 and 2000 TEAM USA member Tony Manna Jr., Omaha, Neb., with 6,726.

      Match play for the top 32 men and 32 women continues at 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Thursday and again at 9 a.m. Friday. Total pinfall, plus bonus pins (20 for each match game win) will determine the final standings including the U.S. Amateur Champions.

      The top five males and top five females automatically will make TEAM USA 2001. A National Selection Committee will choose three additional men and three additional women from among the remaining match lay finalists.

-Hank Boomershine Named Brand Manager For Dyno-Thane/Roto Grip

12/13/2000 - Storm Bowling Products Inc.
      Storm Tour Rep Hank Boomershine has accepted the position of Brand Manager for Dyno-Thane/Roto Grip, sister companies of Storm Products Inc.

      Boomershine, has a M.S. degree from West Texas A&M University ('95) and has vast experience in the bowling industry. Boomershine has been a Pro Shop Operator, C.A.T.S Booth instructor for ABC Tournaments, and his most recent assignment has been with Storm Products as a Tour Rep/Technical Advisor.

      "This is an opportunity of a lifetime," said Boomershine, "I hope to bring some fresh ideas to these two companies."

      "We feel Hank will be a tremendous asset to both companies," said Bill Supper, President of Storm Products, "Hank will do a wonderful job gaining exposure for Dyno-Thane/Roto Grip brand lines."

      Dyno-Thane/Roto Grip made national headlines earlier this year when they signed on with High Roller Inc. as title sponsors for the highly successful megabuck tournaments held in Las Vegas, NV.

      TEAM USA 2000 member Kelly Kulick of Union, N.J., and Ron Nelson Jr. of Bridgeview, Ill., remained atop the men's and women's divisions, respectively, as qualifying ended Wednesday in the 2000 USA Bowling Championships at the National Bowling Stadium.

      Kulick, who led after both qualifying rounds Tuesday, finished the 24-game qualifying round with 4,817 to lead 71 other players in the women's division. In second place was Jeanette Menacho, Sacramento, Calif., at 4,733. TEAM USA 2000 member Jolene Etem, Escondido, Calif., was third at 4,729 followed by six-time TEAM USA member Lucy Giovinco, Tampa, Fla., at 4,720 and Kristal Scott, Painesville, Ohio, at 4,718.

      Nelson, also the leader after both rounds Tuesday, topped the 127-player men's division with 4989. Two-time TEAM USA member David Garber, Dallas, remained next at 4,969. TEAM USA 1998 member Shawn Evans, Satellite Beach, Fla., was third at 4,958 followed by Brian Kretzer, Dayton, Ohio, with 4,956 and Steve Villanueva, San Francisco with 4,935.

      The top 32 men and top 32 women after qualifying advanced to match play set to begin at 4 p.m. Wednesday. Match play continues at 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Thursday and again at 9 a.m. Friday.       Team USA 2000 member Kelly Kulick of Union, N.J., and Ron Nelson Jr. of Bridgeview, Ill., took the leads after 16 qualifying games Tuesday in the 2000 USA Bowling Championships at the National Bowling Stadium.

      Kulick rolled 3,296, an average of 206, to top 71 other players in the women's division. Immediately behind her was Kristal Scott, Painesville, Ohio, with 3,270, 1998 U.S. Amateur Champion Debbie Kuhn, Baltimore, with 3,220, Kassy Hyman, Colorado Springs, Colo., with 3,206 and six-time TEAM USA member and 1996 U.S. Amateur Champion Lucy Sandelin, Tampa, Fla., with 3,203.

      Nelson topped the 127-player men's division with 3,440, a 215 average. Two-time TEAM USA member David Garber, Dallas, was next at 3,354. TEAM USA 1998 member Shawn Evans, Satellite Beach, Fla., was third at 3,327 followed by TEAM USA 1998-2000 member Tony Manna Jr., Omaha, Neb., with 3,298 and Nathan Bohr, Wichita, Kan., with 3,294 including the fifth 300 game in tournament history.

      Qualifying concludes Wednesday at 9 a.m. with eight more games after which the top 32 in each division advance to 32 match play games at 4 p.m. Total pinfall, plus bonus pins (20 for each match game win) will determine the final standings including the U.S. Amateur Champions.
