-Lisa Bishop Jumps To The Front Of The Line In Columbia 300 Open

      LANCASTER, OH - Lisa Bishop, Belleville, Michigan, took over the tournament lead at the $75,000 Columbia 300 Open after chalking up 1,362 pins in the second round to add to her 2,627 total. She will enter the third round on Tuesday with a 22-pin lead over Wendy Macpherson, Henderson, Nevada and a 218.91 tournament average.

      Last week at the N. Myrtle Beach Classic, Bishop made her third championship round appearance of 2001 finishing the event in fourth place. During today's second round, the 30-year old made up ten spots in the standings jumping from 10th to first. Thus far this season, Bishop has cashed in 10 of 15 tournaments ranking 15th in earnings ($25,370), 16th in competition points (6,310) and 16th in averages (204.87).

      "I was shocked I was the tournament leader," said Bishop. "I was real patient in that round because I was still getting used to the lane conditions. Fortunately I've been able to pick up almost all my spares so far and stay consistent."

      Following Macpherson in third place is Michelle Feldman, who trails Bishop by 35 pins and is averaging a 216. The Skaneateles, New York native started her evening with a 169 but proceeded to average 231 for the remaining five games of the round.

      Rounding out the top five is Kim Terrell, Daly City, Calif., with 2,582 pins and a 215.16 average, and Leanne Barrette, Pleasanton, Calif., with a 2,580 total and a 215 average.

      Stacy Rider of La Habra, Calif., tallied the high game of the round by rolling a 277. She currently sits in 22nd place. Ohio natives Karen Bowlby (Logan), Mandy Wilson, (Dayton) and Charlene Lockitski (North Olmsted) posted totals of 2,403, 2,249 and 2,060 placing 23rd, 37nd and 48th respectively.

      Qualifying continues at the Tiki Lanes Tuesday (Oct. 9), at 11 a.m. Following Tuesday morning's games, the field will be cut to the top 24 for match play, starting Tuesday night (6:30 p.m.) and continuing for two more rounds on Wednesday (Oct. 10, 11 a.m. and 6:30 p.m.).

      At the conclusion of match play, the top five finishers compete on Thursday (Oct. 11) at 7 p.m. for the championship rounds. ESPN2 will tape the championships and later broadcast them on Monday, October 15, at 8:00 p.m. (EST).

-Wendy Macpherson Takes Control In Round 1 Of The $75,000 Columbia 300 Open

      LANCASTER, OH - At the end of the first round of the $75,000 Columbia 300 Open, Wendy Macpherson, Henderson, Nevada, took the early lead in the 49-woman field by finishing the six game block with a 1,315 pin fall and a 219.16 average.

      Macpherson, who is in search of her first title of the 2001 season, ranks fifth on the tour in earnings ($58,590.00), fourth in competition points (9,909) and third in averages (211.49). She holds a 20-pin lead over Leanne Barrette, Pleasanton, Calif., who averaged 215.83 in the opening round.

      "You can't not be pleased when you lead the tournament after any round, but it's still very early in the game," said Macpherson. "Right now I'm just trying to get a feel for the lane conditions and keep making the right adjustments."

      Trailing Barrette by one pin is Kim Terrell, Day City, Calif. (1,294) Terrell, who was the PWBA's recipient of the Robby Award in 2000 (given to the bowler who best exemplifies the a positive image of women in pro bowling) is three pins ahead of Cheryl Daniels, West Bloomfield, Michigan (1,291) and 13 pins in front of defending champion Carol Gianotti-Block, Australia (1,281).

      High games of the round belonged to Lisa Bishop, Belleville, Michigan and Kathy Tribbey, Newberg, Oregon who each tallied a 279. Ohio natives Karen Bowlby (Logan), Mandy Wilson, (Dayton) and Charlene Lockitski (North Olmsted) posted totals of 1,156, 1,151 and 1,054 placing 23rd, 25th and 45th respectively.

      Qualifying continues at the Tiki Lanes Monday night at 6:30 p.m and Tuesday (Oct. 9), at 11 a.m. Following Tuesday morning's games, the field will be cut to the top 24 for match play, starting Tuesday night (6:30 p.m.) and continuing for two more rounds on Wednesday (Oct. 10, 11 a.m. and 6:30 p.m.).
