-Honeychurch Takes Over Lead In The North Myrtle Beach Classic

      N. MYRTLE BEACH, SC - Cara Honeychurch, Melbourne, Australia, is out to make her third consecutive television appearance by taking over the lead in the North Myrtle Beach Classic at North Myrtle Beach Bowling Center Wednesday afternoon. Honeychurch went 5-3-0 in match play and averaged 237.25 for eight games to take the lead by 119 pins over Tish Johnson of Northridge, Calif. Johnson averaged 225.87 and won six of her eight matches to move from the fifth to the second position.

      Carol Gianotti-Block, Perth, W. Australia, had high games of 277, 268, 235, and 222 and won five of eight matches to move up to the third position. Staying in the top five are Wendy Macpherson, Henderson, Nev., and Tennelle Grijalva, Orange, Calif. Macpherson dropped three spots to the fourth position and Grijalva dropped two spots to the fifth position.

      The lady professionals return at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday to bowl the last round of match play. The top five advance to the televised finals to be taped on ESPN2 on Thursday at 7:00 p.m., which will air on Monday, October 9, at 8:00 p.m. (Eastern) and repeat on Thursday, October 12, at 1:00 p.m. (Eastern).


-Macpherson Takes Fourth Round Lead In The N. Myrtle Beach Classic

      N. MYRTLE BEACH, SC - Wendy Macpherson, Henderson, Nev., went 5-2-1 in match play and averaged 228.12 for eight games to take over the lead in the N. Myrtle Beach Classic at N. Myrtle Beach Bowling Center Tuesday evening. Macpherson had high games of 259, 257, 236, 227, and 221 to take the lead by 62 pins over Cara Honeychurch, Melbourne, Australia.

      "I just kept my pace," said Macpherson. "In such a high scoring tournament my goal is to stay around 200 over each round to keep up with the rest of the field."

      Honeychurch went 5-3-0 and averaged 238.5 to move six spots into the second position. Third round leader, Tennelle Grijalva, Orange, Calif., dropped to the third position while Carol Gianotti-Block of Australia moved up one spot to the fourth position.

      Making a tremendous move into the top five is Tish Johnson of Northridge, Calif. Johnson went 8-0-0 in match play and averaged 233.5 to move from the sixteenth position.

      The lady professionals return on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. to bowl the final two rounds of match play. The top five will advance to the televised finals to be held on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. to be televised on ESPN2.


-Grijalva Is New Leader In The N. Myrtle Beach Classic

      N. MYRTLE BEACH, SC - Tennelle Grijalva, Orange, Calif., averaged 240.66 to move from the eighth position to take the lead in the North Myrtle Beach Classic at N. Myrtle Beach Bowling Center Tuesday afternoon. Grijalva shot games of 270, 266, 254, and 236 to take the lead by 25 pins over 1999 Bowler of the Year Wendy Macpherson of Henderson, Nev.

      "It's been a while since I shot a number like that," said Grijalva. Based on a 200 average, Grijalva shot 562 pins over in eighteen games.

      "I feel good going into match play," added Grijalva. "This is the first time ever that I've led a tournament. I want to keep the same focus as all week, win as many matches as I can and be in the top five on Wednesday."

      Macpherson is working on getting herself closer to being the second woman bowler in PWBA history to earn a million dollars by moving five spots into the second position. Macpherson needs $16,995 to reach the magical million-dollar mark.

      Maxine Nable, Australia, dropped two spots into third position while Michelle Feldman, Skaneateles, NY, moved up to fourth position. Carol Gianotti-Block, Perth, W. Australia, averaged 216.16 to stay in the top five for the fifth position.

      The top 24 return Tuesday evening at 6:30 p.m. to bowl the first round of match play. On Wednesday the lady professionals return to bowl the final two rounds of match play at 11:00 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. The field will then be cut to the top five to advance to the televised finals on Thursday at 7:00 p.m.


-McMullen Wins Sport Bowling Tournament

      MYRTLE BEACH, SC - Debbie McMullen, Denver, Colo., averaged 220.83 to win The Sport Bowling Tournament at N. Myrtle Beach Bowling Center in N. Myrtle Beach Saturday afternoon winning a first prize of $750.00. The Sport Bowling Tournament was a one-day tournament put together to test the sport competition lane patterns with the PWBA players. The $20 entry fee will be donated to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

      Other top finishers are Carol Gianotti-Block, Australia, Tammy Turner, Akron, Ohio, Lil Johnson, Lawton, Okla., and Lisa Wagner, Bradenton, Fla. Wagner had the high game of the day with a 298.

      The last of the two Sport Bowling Test Tournaments will be held in Lancaster, Ohio at Tiki Lanes on Saturday, October 7, 2000.
