-Feldman Sets Pace At Doubles Challenge

05/29/2002 - PWBA
ROCKFORD, Ill. - Michelle Feldman, Skaneateles, NY scorched the lanes in the first round of the PWBA Women's Collegiate Pro Doubles Challenge at the Cherry Bowl to lead all squad A bowlers with a 244.50 average and a 1,956 pinfall. Fellow New Yorker Jocelyn Stutz, Cheektowaga, topped the collegiate competitors with a 201.62 average and a 1,613 tally.

"At practice yesterday the shorter pattern was giving me a lot of trouble," said Feldman. "When I started this morning I thought I was going to have to throw it at the gutter to get the right reaction. But, after my first few shots I moved a few boards to the right and started throwing it harder."

Feldman completed her eight game block with four scores above 250 a low game of 225. The nine-year pro has one title this season claiming the St. Clair Shores Classic. Last season at the Hammer Players Championship in Rockford, Feldman was a runner-up to Liz Johnson, Cheektowaga, NY, who ranked second among the pros after today's morning session.

A winner of the Robby Award, given to the PWBA player that best exemplifies the most positive image of women in professional bowling on the lanes and off, Johnson posted a 228.12 average and 1,825.

Stutz, who is a sophomore at Erie Community College, was the National Junior College Athletic Association MVP and an All-American in 2001. She leads Melissa Brownie, Richmond, VA by 60-pins. The Morehead State student completed the block with 194.12 and 1,553.

Qualifying for the 69-woman field resume tonight at 6:00 p.m. with Squad B. On Thursday, May 30, at 11 a.m. Squad B will complete round two while Squad A will finish at 6 p.m. Friday the top 24 collegiate and pro qualifiers will be paired as teams based on their 16-game totals.
