-AMF Announces Major Reorganization Of Its Bowling Products Business

05/02/2001 - AMF
RICHMOND, Virginia - AMF Bowling today announced a major reorganization of its Bowling Products division.

"Over the past two months, the Products management team and I have conducted a comprehensive and detailed review of our entire business," said John Suddarth, Chief Operating Officer of AMF Bowling Products. "We had only one purpose in mind: to improve profitability while ensuring we meet and exceed the expectations of our customers."

Suddarth said that the new organizational structure would be comprised of five distinct manufacturing divisions. "Each one will be oriented to provide a much improved level of product and customer focus, as well as internal accountability," he added. "This divisional structure will enable us to respond to opportunities quickly, effectively and in a cost-competitive way."

Also new will be a Global Sales and Service Group and a consolidated Accounting, Administration and Logistics Group to more efficiently leverage sales and support functions. In order to implement the new structure and achieve necessary cost reductions, the company will eliminate a total of 171 positions worldwide.

In Western Europe, AMF will close individual country warehouses and begin performing logistics and accounting functions on a European-wide basis, devoting more resources to Sales and Technical Support. Elsewhere in the world, the company will reduce resources in slow-growth markets while looking for new growth opportunities.

"While the cost reductions are an important part of getting the business back on track, this is also a true reorganization of people and resources to improve product quality and customer service," said Roland Smith, AMF's President and Chief Executive Officer. "Also, the changes being made are independent of our ongoing refinancing efforts. While our refinancing efforts will continue, these changes are really about reestablishing AMF as the number one bowling products supplier in the world."
