-Miller Brands Named Official Beers Of Bowling

02/13/2001 - Bowling Newsline
Strike Ten Entertainment and Miller Brewing Company have entered into a major partnership on behalf of the bowling industry that establishes Miller Lite and other Miller brands as the Official Beers of Bowling.

The first-time, multi-year agreement provides major media and promotional support for all of the bowling industry's major membership organizations from Miller Brewing Company. This includes the Bowling Proprietors Association of America, which represents more than 3,100 bowling centers nationwide; the American Bowling Congress and the Women's International Bowling Congress, which represent approximately 3.5 million sanctioned league bowlers, and the men's and women's professional tours, the Professional Bowlers Association and the Professional Women's Bowling Association.

Miller's support will include significant print and broadcast media for the PBA and PWBA tours as well as consumer promotions targeting ABC and WIBC sanctioned league bowlers.

"This represents the first truly unified marketing partnership between the bowling industry and a major brewing company," said Jack Kelly, CEO of the BPAA. "Miller's considerable support will enable all of the major partners in bowling to meet a number of objectives, from driving bowlers to our centers and providing value-added services for the pro tours and sanctioned leagues, to raising the overall awareness of bowling on the professional and recreational level."

While Miller Brewing has been a dedicated supporter of bowling for decades, the agreement with Strike Ten Entertainment represents its first truly national marketing partnership with bowling's major organizations.

"Miller has had a long relationship with bowling, but this agreement is by far the most substantial of its kind that we've ever participated in," said Steve Buerger, group director of media services and event marketing at Miller Brewing Company.

"This is representative of the direction Miller is taking with all of its programs. We're focusing directly on the interests of our consumers, and are putting as much support as possible in those areas. With this new partnership, we can speak to both serious and recreational bowlers, driving our messages home and making Miller brands the only choice at the alley."

-USA Bowling Coaching Program Now Headquartered in Colorado Springs

02/13/2001 - Bowling Newsline
USA Bowling's Coaching Certification program recently has undergone several positive changes.

Formerly headquartered at Bowling Headquarters in Greendale, Wis., the program has moved to Colorado Springs, Colo., and is now managed by new Director of Coaching Pat Henry and Assistant Director of Coaching Jeff Piroozshad.

The coaching program will be in transition in 2001. With his new staff, Henry will oversee the process of reviewing past programs, keeping what works and working with those that need additional enhancements.

Henry and Piroozshad have plans to improve the requirements and seminars for the certification of coaches. No definite word has been given on exactly what these changes or improvements may be at this time.

"In this transition year, no major changes will be made, although improvements will be made along the way," Henry said. "We also are looking at reviving the Coaches Council."

Former Director of Coaching Palmer Fallgren, currently based in Florida, will continue his involvement with USA Bowling as a coaching consultant. Fallgren's main responsibility will be as a presenter for coaching certification seminars.

TEAM USA Head Coach Fred Borden will work closely with Henry on the coaching certification process. The re-certification process is currently underway for Bronze, Silver, and Gold level coaches.

"Coaches are reminded that they are required to re-certify every two years," Henry said. "This year we already have approximately 500 coaches who have done so."

USA Bowling reminds all coaches to check their expiration date in case they need to re-certify this year. If not sure when your certification expires, contact Pat Henry (719/636-2695, [email protected]) or Jeff Piroozshad ([email protected]) at the Colorado Springs office.
