-Wisconsin Bowler First To Roll 800 Series On Sport Bowling Conditions In 2002-03 Season
01/29/2003 - Bowling Newsline
GREENDALE, Wis. - Scott Weber of Green Bay, Wis., has become the first bowler to roll an 800 three-game series on American Bowling Congress/Women's International Bowling Congress Sport Bowling lane conditions for the 2002-03 season.

Weber's 817 series included a perfect game, the fourth rolled on Sport Bowling conditions this season. Weber's series came on games of 269-248-300 Jan. 20, 2003 at Manhattan Lanes in De Pere. He is only the second bowler to roll a 300 game and 800 series combination. Last year Davey Rosen of Vernon Hills, Ill., achieved this feat.

Weber currently is the ABC national Sport Bowling average leader at 222 for the 2002-03 season. Last season Weber finished third in the ABC national Sport Bowling average race with 218.52.

"I didn't think I'd get an 800 after the second game, but things went well," said Weber, 37. "The last game through the first four or five frames I thought I'd have a 700 for sure. I consider a 700 a great score on any condition."

The other bowlers who have shot 300 games on Sport Bowling conditions this season: Dan Conrad, GT Western Bowl, Champaign, Ill.; Larry Magrie, Bowl One, Troy, Mich.; and Bob Daughtery, Beaver Vu Lanes, Beavercreek, Ohio.

Developed by ABC and WIBC, Sport Bowling is an optional level of membership consisting of league and tournament competition on challenging lane conditions. Sport Bowling emphasizes technique and spare shooting while re-establishing credibility in the sport. Sport Bowling lane conditions are used in numerous upper echelon tournaments such as the ABC Masters, the WIBC Queens and the USA Bowling National Amateur Championships as well as several PBA and Professional Women's Bowling Association national tour events.
