Chris Barnes Announces Fan Club
1/27/2000 - Chris Barnes
With a distinguished amateur career, Chris Barnes entered the PBA in 1998 and earned Rookie of the Year honors that season. Proving no sophomore jinx, he went on to win two titles in 1999, and became one of the leading money earners last year. Always a formidable opponent, Chris Barnes captured the crowd's heart during the Orleans Casino Open. Despite a broken toe and surgery to repair it, Barnes kept rising in the standings to make the telecast, finishing fourth.
Now introducing the Chris Barnes Fan Club.
Members receive a 5 x 7 color photo, certificate of membership, an exclusive Chris Barnes Fan Club pin, a Vise Grips wall poster, Wichita State University ball bag tag, collectors pins from Team USA, a Brunswick bowling towel, a PBA 2000 Tour Schedule, and highlights of Chris's career accomplishments. The most unique offering of the fan club is the four issues of the quarterly newsletter, Barnestormers, with tips, news, and insights as to equipment, and questions answered by Chris.

PBA Membership Gives Board Authority to Negotiate Possible Sale of PBA Tour
1/20/2000 - PBA Tour
The 2,800 members of the Professional Bowlers Association (PBA) Tour have given the PBA Tour Board of Directors the authority to negotiate a purchase and sale agreement of the PBA Tour through a membership vote.
The PBA has been a membership association since its inception in 1958. Because it is a membership association, PBA Tour guidelines require a majority vote of the membership for approval in matters such as this. The deadline for PBA members to cast votes was January 14. Votes were counted on January 19, 2000 and the measure to empower the PBA Tour Board of Directors with the authority to negotiate a purchase agreement passed by an overwhelming majority.
PBA Tour Commissioner Mark Gerberich and the Tour's board members have been receiving inquiries from interested parties since late last year. The PBA Tour and its board expect to complete a transaction within four to six weeks.
"The approval of the membership was a necessary first step as we work toward completing these negotiations," said Gerberich. "We want to stress that a deal is not yet finalized and that many details remain to be worked through."

Bowling for bragging rights only, the league was formed nearly three years ago. The bowlers send e-mail "updates" to each other to keep in touch and share their bowling highlights and lowlights. This season the twist comes with the addition of touring Pros. The league starts the week of January 17, and league standing sheets and weekly updates by the pros will be available on our League Standings page.
