***** Tip of the Week *****
This week, George Freeman talks about finger inserts.
For many fingertip bowling balls, rubber (or some other compound) finger inserts are used to give the bowler a better feel and more gripping power. However, no finger insert lasts forever. As you use the bowling ball, the rubber inserts will wear down. You need to check them regularly for wear and tear. If they wear down too much, you'll lose grip power on the ball and will not come out of the ball as cleanly as you used to. In extreme circumstances, when the inserts have not been changed in an unusually long amount of time, it can even affect the span of your bowling ball, because the rubber lift will have been worn away, causing your span to shorten.
A good method to determine wear on your inserts is to check them every 25-30 games. Look at the inserts, do they still have the lip on them? Is it wearing down? Take your ball into an experienced pro shop operator to ask him to evaluate your grips. If you are unsure, they are the best source for information.
Remember, a ball that fits properly will perform properly :)

***** New Website Makes Debut *****
The site BowlingFans.com (http://www.bowlingfans.com) made its debut this week as a site "for the fans, by the fans." It includes news, stories, columns, tips, birthdays of the pros, and a web-based version of Kegler's Connection so readers can go back and find stories from previous issues.
***** Foundation Announces Foundation Games *****
The Foundation (http://www.foundation300.com) has announced the formation of "The Foundation Games," scratch tournaments held at selected sites around the world.
The Foundation will completely dictate the lane oil, the oiling patterns, and the selection of bowling ball surfaces that are used in these events. With total control, they plan to define the sport of bowling by adding integrity and credibility.
The Foundation headquarters will administer the tournament from Sebring, FL, while each tournament will be run locally by a qualified Tournament Director. The tournament directors and all bowlers competing in the games must be Foundation members. Cash prizes and medals will be awarded to top finishers, and first place winners will move on to a national championship.
Potential sites (bowling centers) and those who are truly interested in becoming Tournament Directors, should contact the National Tournament Director, Len Nicholson at [email protected]
