***** Welcome Notes *****
Now that leagues are in full swing, this week's Kegler's Connection will keep you informed of the latest bowling news, give you tips to help with your game, and show you the hottest bowling sites on the Web.
***** Tip of the Week *****
This week, George suggests packing some essentials in the bag.
With winter leagues starting, many people have got new equipment (balls, shoes...). There are other things that any bowler, whether they are a beginner or a seasoned veteran, should have in their bag of tricks:
1. Bowling Shoe Cover: Most pro shops sell these, and they can be very useful, especially if you want to walk to the snack bar or front desk in between shots. What are they? A protective slip that goes over your bowling shoes, protecting them from spilled drinks, candy, or any other hazards that find themselves on the floor. I'd recommend getting one for each foot, but if you just put one over your slide foot, that is okay too.
2. Bowling Tape/ Sandpaper: Hands fluctuate in size everyday, so having sandpaper in your bag to work the thumbholes to get wider, and bowling tape to snug them up is essential to ensure a good fit. If the thumbhole is too small, you will be hanging up in the ball, and generating loft you don't want. If the thumbhole is too big, you will be squeezing harder than you should to hold onto the ball, thus muscling your swing. A good-fitting thumb is essential to a good shot.
3. Bowling Towel: This in kind of a no brainer, but I figure I'd put it in to be thorough It is a good idea to wipe excess oil and residue from the ball surface to get a better grip for your bowling ball to the lane surface.
4. Rosin Bag: Having a rosin bag can help keep your hands dry, thus further ensuring a true grip on the bowling ball. Most pros use them, and you should too.
This is no way is a complete list, but it should give you an idea where to start. Having a "bag of tricks" in your bowling bag will help you get ahead of the game.
Till next time,
