***** Welcome Notes *****
Welcome back to Kegler's Connection. Summer may be quiet, but with fall around the corner, we're busy keeping you informed with free, weekly emails. When you pick up that ball and get ready to roll, we'll be ready with tips, news, and information on the sport you love.

***** Tip of the Week *****
This week's tip comes from George Freeman, who suggests practice doesn't always have to occur on the lanes.

Mental practicing

With the new season approaching, bowlers everywhere are getting new equipment, new shoes, new apparel, etc. While apparel doesn't go directly to scoring, equipment and shoes and such do, and many bowlers are hitting the lanes early to practice with their new toys. But what about when you aren't at the bowling center? Is it possible to still practice? Yes. Imagining your shot mentally in your down time away from the center can and will acclimate your muscles to the tasks they perform on the lanes.

It can be done anywhere--work, while watching TV, while eating dinner--anywhere you can be undisturbed. Imagine in your mind yourself throwing a good shot, remembering the feeling and the motions you go through. When you do that, you reinforce those responses in your brain. It's called mental imaging, and it has been proven to work very well. You can even use mental imaging in between frames in league or a tournament. You know what a good shot feels like, you just need to recreate those feelings in your mind.

While it is not a substitute for good old-fashioned practice, using mental imaging will give you another edge to work with.

George
