1. Welcome Notes

Kegler's Connection welcomes you back to our latest edition.  This week, we bring you news on Bowl Expo seminars, World Team Challenge news, and George talks about trying too hard.
2. Tip of the Week

This week, George talks about trying too hard.

We all want to do well, especially if your team is fighting for first place in the league, or you're trying to do well in a special tournament.  Sometimes this creates tension, because we don't want to mess up, or do anything bad to hurt our chances.  Tension will create negative thoughts, and that will create bad shots, because the mind controls the body.  Here are some tips to avoid trying too hard.

Realize you're a human being and can make mistakes, and will make mistakes.  Let them go and move on.

When you miss a spare, forget about it.  When you're up in the 8th frame grumbling about the chopped spare in the 4th frame, you aren't concentrating on what you should be doing.

When you're in the 3rd frame, don't worry about what you'll need in the 8th frame.  Bowl every frame like its the only one you get.

If you get into a rut, and just cant seem to make anything work, take a step back and regroup.  Take a couple deep breaths, maybe walk down to get a drink of water, do something to break up the monotony.  Go talk to a friend, count to 10, something.

And most of all, have fun.

Till next week :)
George Freeman

4. Saginaw Valley Men / Morehead State Women Top Final Poll

5. Bowl Expo Seminars Offered

The Bowling Proprietors' Association of America (BPAA) will offer a wide range of choices for its educational seminars at International Bowl Expo 2001 to be held in Las Vegas at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino and the Las Vegas Convention Center June 17 - 23, 2001.

BPAA and the International Bowling Pro Shop and Instructors Association (IBPSIA) have united to increase convention education hours from 59 in 2000 to more than 75 hours this year.   These hours will include the certification credit hours needed for IBPSIA members.  Expanded educational tracks have been developed on bowling center-related topics such as technology, human resources, sales and marketing, bowling industry issues, professional development and hands-on training.  Knowledgeable speakers will enlighten Bowl Expo participants on topics such as media strategies/media buying, sponsorships, customer service, database development, staff recruitment techniques, increasing food service revenue, developing profitable parties, security issues, scholastic bowling, league bowling concepts, practical time management and graphic arts/visual displays.  Included in the changes for education at Bowl Expo 2001 are 10 workshops that will be repeated to allow more registrants the opportunity to attend different seminars.

6. 2002 ABC Tournament

As of April 2, ABC had already received 7,200 team reservations at a pace similar to the 2000 Tournament in Albuquerque and 400 teams ahead of Syracuse in 1999. Those two ABC Tournaments rank one and two, respectively, as the largest ever held outside of Reno, Nev.

7. 2001 Masters

There is still time for any ABC member who holds a 190 average for the past two seasons to enter the 51st ABC Masters presented by the Eldorado, Silver Legacy, & Circus Circus. The Masters, which will attract the nation's top professional and non-professional bowlers, will be conducted in the 78-lane National Bowling Stadium in Reno, Nev., June 12-16. When the Masters was last held in Reno in 1998 it drew a record sold-out field of 624 players.

8.  Virginia Teams Wins Kentucky WTC

Members of NRV Superbowl of Chistiansburg, Va., used strikes on their first three shots in the title match to propel them to victory April 8 in the sixth ABC/Brunswick World Team Challenge qualifying event of 2001 at Superbowl in the Cincinnati suburb of Erlanger, Ky.

Ronnie Horton, David Hungate, Bryan Coleman, Todd Masingo and Chris Hans earned the victory with a 423-360 two-game Baker System triumph over Team Brunswick of Pittsburgh. It marked the first qualifying victory ever for NRV Superbowl members who earned airfare and lodging to the 2001 Grand Championships this fall. They also collected $2,450 in prize money, Keepsake championship rings, and a sponsor's award.

The next BWTC qualifier is April 21-22 at Don Carter Lanes in Lake Worth, Fla. For entry information, contact Tom Boedecker at 414/423-3415.
