Naked spare -
A single pin spare.



Nationals -
The official nationwide tournament held by the USBC.



Negative balance -
A bowling ball with negative balances tends to turn away from the pins.



Negative weight -
Any imbalance, thumb, negative, or bottom.



Negative side weight -
Imbalance in a ball that effectively makes the left side of the ball side heavier, for right handed release players, and right side of the ball heavier for left handed release players.



Never up never in -
A philosophy that says that in order to strike you must first hit the headpin.



Nine pin -




No drive no five -
An expression stating you must take out the five pin on a pocket hit to achieve a strike, the ball must have enough power through the deflection from the headpin to hit the five pin.



Nose -
1) The beak.
2) Center of the headpin.
2) A hit high on the headpin.



No-Tap -
A type of competition where 9 pins on the first ball is scored as a strike; in some instances there are 8-pin no-tap events; in those, 8 pins or more on the first ball counts as a strike.



Nothing ball -
An ineffective ball.
