The Right Approach...Views on the world of bowling.

Volume 3, Issue 21, The 125th Edition
By Angel Zobel-Rodriguez

In what has become a yearly tradition, I'd like to offer my thanks to my ever-faithful three readers.

I'm thankful for an understanding doctor who allowed me to visit a PBA event in Las Vegas by plane at 7 1/2 months pregnant even though she couldn't quite appreciate the significance.

I'm even more thankful that the men's U.S. Open will be an hour away by car this December.

I'm thankful for the fact that my daughter arrived in March, allowing me to bowl ABCs in June.

And I'm more thankful that my team and my doubles partner was understanding that my bowling wasn't exactly back to normal (let alone up to tournament standards) ten weeks after delivery.

I'm thankful for my husband's third 300 game, even if I only got there for the very last shot.

I'm thankful that my son's bowling improves each year.

And I'm even more thankful that on my worst days, he hasn't improved enough to beat me yet.

I'm thankful that the Internet Invitational league has survived into its tenth incarnation (Thanks Lisa and Carol!).

I'm thankful for a family that enjoys this sport with the same passion as I do.

I'm thankful for my family being repeat champions in our Adult/Junior league, even if it's the only league I can ever win more than once in my lifetime.

I'm thankful to be a secretary to a fantastic president in a tough-shot league that challenges bowlers.

And I'm thankful for the memory to remember, in advance, the pitfalls of that first season when we come to the same issues and problems in our sophomore season.

And I'm most thankful that I'm secretary, and not bowling it, especially when I see some of them scratching their heads game after game.

I'm thankful that Chris Barnes finally earned his third title and Tommy Delutz, Jr. won his second, although I hope in the future they don't have to bowl each other--my heart's not that strong.

I'm even more thankful there's live televised bowling so I can watch who won.

And I'm thankful for a job within my sport that allows me to "Take Our Daughters to Work" every day, rather than just once a year.

I'm thankful for being asked to take over a junior program despite being six months pregnant at the time.

I'm even more thankful for the parents in the program and the children who bowl in it who appreciate what I'm doing and make me strive to do more.

I'm thankful for being elected president of the local YABA.

And I'm even more thankful for the help of the knowledgeable secretary and past president who are patient beyond belief with my questions and helping me lead the association.

I'm thankful for the opportunity to write this column, and be a part of the BowlingFans.com family.

And most importantly, I'm thankful for the health and happiness of my family and my friends in these most difficult times.

And, of course, I'm thankful for my readers, who've been most patient as I've gotten back from maternity leave--a lot slower than planned.

Gotta Split,

Angel
